Subject: Re: porcupine vs. dog

Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!
How many quills, and where are they located? Sometimes the only way is a vet. Inside the mouth, or in the body, if you don't catch them all, they can work their way through flesh over time. If you value your dog, and have any doubt you got 'em all, take im to the vet. Some dogs learn from that first encounter, some don't unfortunately. If it was winter, porcupines are easy to hunt, they climb up a tree to bed for the day, and are easy to spot in leafless trees. We had a dog who got 40 or 50 in the nose once, we got most out, the vet got the rest. Except for one which worked its way through the snout, and back nearly through the eye.

If I were you, I would not wait till tomorrow. You would not believe how fast the devils work their way in. I Know I sure didn't believe it. Until I saw it...
