The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri) | Here is what the only decent looking corn we had here in Shell Knob looks like now… The first decent rain we’ve had since April came last night… and wouldn’t you know it just had to come in solid form…. This corn had almost 23.4 inches of rain in an 8-day period (right after it was planted) and then hadn’t seen a measurable drop since…. Its been in the mid 90’s around here and this field had rolled its leaves everyday for over a month… With all that, the corn still seemed to look alright, and although the yields definitely weren’t going to be there, when it started to tassel a few days ago things didn’t look as bad as they actually where…. Well needless to say, now they look it……….. I know a lot of progressive farmers that accuse all the “old geezers” of being pessimistic about everything, but I’m here to tell you, this year seems like it would make a drinkin’ man out of a monk around here…. I guess all I can say is if things keep up, keep your eyes out for the posters advertising our dispersal auction this fall…. :-P… might be worth coming to.... amidst all the junk, we’ve got some pretty neat stuff… :-P ;-)
