Well, if you need forage badly, you may have to give up on what you'd like to do for what you'll need to do. When you get late in the year, silage is often the only way to get something put up. If someone in your area did bagging, I have one neighbor that's got a headgate that goes on a bag. Put the bag next to a fence, run a hotwire down the other side. There are rollers on the top and bottom that roll up the plastic as the cattle eat. A little labor, but when it's done, it's done. The other option would be to just buy dry hay.
