New Mexico
a burn record for the usa. ( say 4,000 square miles of high fuel load rough country in AZ and NM in front of this one ).

Rough country, with a 30 year stockpiled timber load.
Logging pretty much shut down long ago as the govt is saving the spotted owl or something.
Grazing pretty much shut down too.

Burn area incline rate is in the 50k acres per day range.
Started as a quick 7k acre fire June 1 or 2nd, is in the 200k acre range tonight.

In the 20k to 40k elevation range for hot gas and upward smoke plume.
Spot fires forward in the 3 to 5 mile range.

This deal is big enough and hot enough, it makes it's own weather so to speak.

Wind picked up again today, could burn E/NE to the Top of the Continental Divide ( maybe farther in Western NM ).

Guess as long as the Ins cos keep paying on burn damage, there's probably no real liability challenge to the usa govt's mismanagement of their lands.
