Subject: RE: Question for some of the new equipment buyers.(some, not all)

I'm glad someone buys new and trades periodically so I can buy used. I personally can't see the economics of trading a 1 year old combine with <500 hours every year but if it works for you great. Locally, there is a farmer who gets a new combine every year and another farmer buys his trade in every year. So every year there is a 2 year old combine with <1000 hours available.

I'm a small farmer and don't rack up the hours so my stuff will last a long time. I don't mind spending money on needed repairs as I'm planning on keeping everything for a while. My stuff is all similarly sized so if one tractor went down I could hook up another and keep going. One person can't run more than one tractor at a time anyway. For older stuff I think redundancy is the key.
