We had a dog several years ago that had the same problem.  Had to give the dog the same medication as a person with epilepsy, (Dilantin) one pill a day.  No problem as long as the dog got his pill, and he soon learned to take it easily.  Couldn't just put it in food, had to stick down his throat.
