Subject: Half frozen calf

Went out this morning and found a cow with a calf, probably born 2 - 3 hours before. Temp was about zero. Calf hadn't nursed and was covered by ice and snow where it had evidently struggled to get up but couldn't. I put the calf in our calf warmer and then drenched it with some powdered colostrum. It did not get up and continues to shiver. It bawls weakly a little every once in a while. We even put a heat lamp in the top of the calf warmer. Drenched it again this afternoon about 2:00. It is 4:15 and still doesn't even try to get up and shivers when I open the warmer. What more do I need to do? Would a hot water bath help? I plan on trying to get mama in the chute and milk her (if she'll cooperate) and maybe get that down the calf. Any suggestions?
