Subject: RE: Half frozen calf

North Central Kansas
Glad it made it. I lost a 10 day old calf this morning. It was on a heifer that had not claimed it at first but I had got it to claim it. Calf was up last night when I fed them in the shed at 5 and then again at 11pm. Heifer was not a great milker but had milk and the calf had been nursing. Went out at 3 to check on the other cows and the calf was stretched and chilled. Took it to the shop and put heat on it and tubed it. It died about 8:30 this morning. I felt really bad. My daughter will be heartbroke when she gets home from school tonight as she had fed the calf when its mother was not wanting to claim it. Not sure what the deal was. You can't lose them if you don't have them but I still hate to lose them.
