My vote is to start with the 9mm. Simply for the fact that it's cheaper to shoot and PRACTICE with!! If you are unfamiliar with the gun it doesn't matter what you have if you are uncomfortable handling it. Practice is vital. Practice clearing jams not just plinking. I keep a 9 in my pickup and pull it our for varmits crossing the road a lot. The 9 makes it fun to unload a clip at some varmit scampering away.We have a LOT of coyotes this year. I guess I just rationalize that shooting at them with my 9 is really "practice".
