Kansas | Sounds like major wear to me. More then likely the dogs underneath that work the jaws. Pull your two pivot pins and pull the 5th wheel and look it over. Could be a lubrication issue that it's hanging up or it could be shot. In either case, good used 5th wheels are out there to be had at a decent price or rebuild it. It isn't to bad of a deal. Just make sure when you rebuild it that you don't put the keepers in the pivot pins so if it locks the jaws around the king pin and you can't release it, you can still pull the pivot pins and drive the truck out from underneath it so you can get under there to work on it so it will manually release. | |
