Mine are eating ear corn by grazing and doing the harvesting themselves as discussed in the thread just below. I start them a month after weaning (now) or at about 8 months of age. Let them start gradually so the rumen can adjust. I leave hay out for them also.

By the way, where is "here"? A simple general location would make your post/question much more useful. Here is a picture of a steer grazing earcorn from last March. The cob and husks give them some roughage also. It looks like I will be able to get the steers quite a bit bigger by this 3/28 picture date this year.
