I've been thinking about this today as we dropped one belt off to be repaired and picked another one up. What about a couple simple metal clamps with redi-bolt between them? It seems like in order for it to really work right you need 3 guys. Two to stretch and work the belt and another one to fight the cable.

Chad, What I have been doing lately is if I can get it held together I push a solid peice of wire through and then keep sliding that out as I push the cable in much easier to push the wire through as it is hard and solid. Also the suggestion for the two peices of angle iron sounds good will have to try that next time hope I don't have to do any for a while as I shortned one belt last fall and another this summer.
