Subject: RE: Rotor losses with 2588 in corn

North East Kansas
I wouldn't call anyone stupid for saying to speed up just because it is 225 bu. corn. We run at 5.5mph with an 8 row head in 210-240 bushel corn with no problems at all. The only problem we encounter is overloading the clean grain elevator. Some of the suggestions made make a lot of since for grain separation, but not for unthreshed cobs. Removing wires helps a lot for grain separation, but might actually hurt if you aren't threshing. We run our rotor at 250 rpm a lot of times, and it made a big difference to retard the veins. It actually might not hurt to go a little faster because a full rotor will make grain travel through slower, and have more time to thresh. Rotors that aren't full will actually kick cobs to the back without have much threshing time.
