loran, check the rack underneath the slide for rust jacking which pushes the slide up inside the track. This will make the door very hard to open and putting gear downs on it will not help in the end.

The rack is only spot welded on the steel plate which is bolted to the bottom of the slide. this allows rust to get in between the rack and upper mounting plate squeezing the whole thing like the brakes were on.

Take slide off, remove rack/plate, cut rack off plate and grind it all clean. Weld it back all the way around sealing the rack so no more rust, straighten in a big vise and replace everything, with new bearings on pinion shaft if needed. I did mine and you can turn it by hand and does not need gear downs with a load. Wish I never spent the money on them now.

I like the rack and pinions, very tough and simple and apparently tough as nails.
