Subject: Re: Grain Baggers-tell me everything

NE Saskatchewan
We bag a fair amount of grain in northeast saskatchewan (canola, oats, wheat and barley). We use a loftness unloader and a mainero bagger. Not sure if you get much snow down there, but if you do make sure you get an unloader with the wheels that run in the same path as the bag and not on the outside edge of the bag. Deer and elk are our main problems with the bags, once they figure out whats in side of them, they will tear the bag apart. Mice can be a concern with making holes in the bottom of the bag, but if you try to run the bag parallel to the seed rows it seems to help. We have found that it is crucial to pick the bags up before spring thaw, because any mouse holes in the bottom will wick the water into the bag and make one hell of a mess. All in all we love the speed and convenience of bagging grain and will continue to use them.
Just wish we had somewhere to recycle plastic, instead of dumping it in the landfill. They make one hell of a slip and slide though and are pretty good for building outdoor ice rinks. Or the new 12' bags can be used to store combine headers for the winter, just pull them straight through an unused bag and leave the ends open to let the moisture out.
