I got to tour the Boswell operation a few years ago. Quite the operation. They had their own John Deere dealership, grew half the long staple cotton in the US, and of course there were plenty of stories about the whole thing. We got a copy of the book from our hosts.
We toured a bunch of other large operations, but that was the largest.
Boswell owns land in other places too. Sun City, Arizona was developed on his land. At the time we toured, he was selling about 50 million dollars worth of land by San Diego each year, and they were expanding in Australia.
One interesting thing was he donated that land at Corcoran for the federal penitentury where Sirhan Sirhan, Charles Manson, and lots of other famous criminals were housed. I wondered if that was so that section of lake wouldn't get flooded by the multitude of water boards operating in the area.
Boswell started out a bit rough and ended up marrying the heiress of the LA Times. Quite a story. Well worth the read.
