I have grown pumpkins pretty seriously for 20 years. Around 10 acres a year, mostly for retail u-pick sales. I have 2 ponds and all the equipment to irrigate but probably haven't for 10 years. The potential for disease problems is worse then any dry spell we've had in the last 10 years. Problems with phytophera(sp?) can come from irrigating out of a pond, Irrigating out of a well or stream would lower the risk significantly.

Here is a photo from 7/15 of a planting made 6/11.

From planting until 7/23 we only had 1.5" of rain and hot temps.

Here is how they look today, we had 2.5" over the weekend.
