Subject: Why did my seed rot?

west central illinois
I planted my last 180 acres of soybeans (no-til) into cornstalks last Friday. Conditions werent perfect but window of opportunity was there to get them in. Seed slot open 75% of time but with rain in the forecast had to get them in. Received 3.5 inches over the weekend. Went to field Tues, no visible plants. Went back Thurs. and ground was hard as concrete. Still no visible plants. Started digging and seed had rotted. Why? Been farming 30 years and have never had this happen. What would cause seed to rot in 6 days. All I know is now I need to replant and received another 1.8 inches last nite. If it was fun everyone would do it. This year no fun at all! I am in west central Illinois. Untreated RR seed. Thanks for any input.
