east central ND
agree with you 100%. bought a wreck of a 2 pt sprayer many years ago for $1500 from a back lot of a dealer. used it for 4 years on 1000 ac usally 2 passes. 8000 ac times $5 local co-op rate is $40,000! No way I could have afforded to have it all custom sprayed. I now have a better Summer's 2pt with 90' booms, and 800 gallon tank. bought it used - a bit over priced but had some options I wanted- for $8500, I think when new they were $16,000?.

We farm a bit more now, so last year and this year so far, it has gone over 4000 ac. (soybeans were 3 trips last year with spraying for aphids) with at the very least 1000 ac more this year is 5000 ac times $5 is $25,000 in only two years! I did hire the co-op to spray wheat as I was still planting soybeans. Will hire them again if decide to put fungicide on so they can follow same tracs with their 100' boom.

Say a guy has 300 ac., sprays it twice, 600 ac times $5 is $3000. You can pick up most any farm paper in ND and get even a 500 gal tank and 80' boom Summer's 2p in decent shape from a dealer for $5000 to $6000, only need about a 130 hp 2wd tractor like a 4430, could run smaller tractor if going in good conditions. Something that pays for itself in two years and then the advatanges of beter spay timming is worth going to the bank for a loan.
