Subject: prices, selling, and into fall and the bins still full....

Driftless SW Wisconsin

It may be but depends greatly on the weather between now and August in many areas.

This is a very interesting thread. I keep coming back to two points:

- Knowing what is your true  cost of production, when you get a fair selling price above that maybe you should think of selling some of your crop.

- Since no one knows for sure what the markets or the weather will do, why not sell a portion of your crop at regular intervals when prices are at profitable (=above your cost of production plus a fair profit) levels. This will lock in a profit and also give you an opportunity to sell at least a portion of your crop at higher levels also.

Regular selling does mean you miss selling it all at the exact top. But it also means you miss selling it all at the bottom also.

another major point:

let's not get into the bind we did a couple years ago and get to harvest with bins full waiting for higher prices and no where to put the new crop except on the ground - then you KNOW which direction prices will go, like a rock! jmho.
