Subject: RE: How much is food going up and why?

Rural Valley pa
well not being on the grain side as much and mostly doing cattle lets see.. 500 lb feeder at 1.25 a lb 625.00 saleing 1400 lb steer finished .90 lb ends up 1260.00 minus 625.00 for finished cost. end up with 635.00 now with corn prices at 2.00 figuring two ton of shelled corn per head which is low puts us at 144.00 now takes it down to 491.00 double the cost of corn and we go to 347.00. not figuring hay minerals vaccinations ect..don't see allot of cattle producers staying with it long till some one pays double for there steaks don't see that happening either. don't get me wrong I see what you are getting at but for the past 10 years it has all settled around 2.00 corn. only way its going to correct its self is like Dave M said all other prices in production will follow suit and even if the prices hold every thing else will follow and it will be like getting 2.00 corn again. you will spend more to produce it. sorry for rambling on just my 2 cents............
