Subject: Re: Alfalfa question

Little River, TX
Here on the Missouri river bottom we like to go at least three years. I like to plant winter wheat when I kill a field.

Here on the Little River, river bottom we like to plant wheat one maybe two years, then one year fallow before planting back to alfalfa. I have allowed a stand to reseed it's self two times over an eleven year period. The fallow period is to allow the ground to build up deep moisture for the alfalfa stand. While in wheat I apply enough phosphate and potash to carry the alfalfa through 20 - 30 tons of hay. The wheat is to pull down the nitrogen and for weed control. A major factor is not to produce more alfalfa hay than the local market will buy. Going outside my local market I loose my price advantage.

One is how we can operate the other is the how we do operate.
