One thing that will take a direct hit Brian, your direct payments will be reduced acre for acre for every acre of canning crop put in. Unless you have canning crop history in your base acres.

I'm not inferring in any way if those payments make an operation "whole" or not. But it does make for more paper work, especially if you've already signed up for 07.

Might be different this year to get the acres they need, but in the past... to get the sweet corn... had to put in the peas. Long time growers usually got the "early peas" so you could double crop the beans after. New comers usually got the mid seasons, the ones you have a field empty at the end of July and wondering what to do with the ground till the next year. One thing you DO NOT do .... is till that pea field to keep the weeds in check, don't ask how I know that one... LOL. If you get lucky to get the early's, be prepared to switch out of corn sometime in the end of Oct to take out freeze dried (somtimes) green beans. Not that big of a deal usually, unless you aren't prepared for it. Also, no peas on previous corn ground, volunteer corn is a quick way to get peas rejected at the plant, there has been some changes as of late, but not sure what they are. Last time for peas here was mid 90's.

On the sweet corn, don't plan on it on any of your proposed strip till fields, if you are in EQUIP, might be difficult to meet recs of residue after planting if the sweet corn has to come out when wet. A lot like beets in a wet year, they come out regardless.

Is Glencoe moving east??? Or Sleepy Eye moving north???
