If you really wanted to farm it, really thought you are a better farmer than other people, a better manager, a better marketer, etc, and you knew it is always harder to get the land at first, why didn't you just say I will give $10/ acre more than any other bid you will show me in writing? I would be willing to bet they would call you back.............
