Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
I doubt that I will go back to 36" now that I am on 30's but I kind of wish I had stayed on 36's. Here's why. I'm planting with a 16 row 30" planter taking a 40' swath. With 36" rows I could have a 48' swath with the same number of rows to maintain and etc. Cost of that extra 8' shouldn't be very much. And my biggest reason would be in harvesting. I pick with an 8 row head with a 20' swath. 8 row - 36" would give me a 24' swath. That would be a good size in the field here with terraces and still be able to move down the roads without removing the header. 12 row-30's, you can't do it. I'm doing a lot of driving with 8 row 30's.
If your looking at used equipment, 36" equipment does not resale very well, at least arounf here. That can be a plus if your buying. Not so good if your selling.
Yield wise, I don't know. 30's MIGHT be better but there are a few guys around with 36" rows having very good yields.
