What is the difference between these two corn fields. Quiz +pics

 Answers to above:

The corn in both pictures were planted on the same day last may. 

Neither picture had any Nitrogen applied. 

The pictures were taken 100' from each other in the same field.

The corn is the same variety in both pics.

Pic one made no harvestable corn, pic 2 made over 200

The only difference between the two fields was one had the top 10 feet of soil and alfalfa plant material removed -just subsoil,    topsoil depth in pic 2 is less than 4 inches and subsoil is quite uniform from there on down deep.   Both are dryland

although irrelavant imo, pic one was planted East-West and pic 2 North-South

Pic 1 was taken near the one below, pic 2 was taken from the far end of the pic below
