N FLA | It sounds like you are applying liquid, below the soil surface. Under those conditions Agrotain would have no value as a volitilization inhibitor. Agrotain Plus is reported to be a nitrification inhibitor. This would keep the urea and ammonium portion of the liquid fertilizer in the ammonium for a little longer. This may have some impact, as ammonium is less prone to leaching. Probably depends on the soils and the season.
Just guessing about your observations and my experience, I feel like when incorporated into the soil, urea hangs around longer, because it first becomes ammonium, which can bind to CEC. Your liquid fertilizer is probably 25% nitrate, which is readily leachable in coarse soils. The other portion of your fert is probably 25% ammonium, and 50% urea. Im sure your dealer could show you the breakdown on your liquid. | |
