I have dried watermelon seed in the sun and then stored in a zip lock bag
Years ago when I was a kid we were cleaning the shop and found a glass jar or Indian corn that my uncle/dad had got and shelled into this yar. This seed was 30 years old when planted. It grew to make some really nice ears.
