You are correct, if a guy wants twin rows, perform full width tillage.
I think a good system for twin row would be to precision place some N, P and K in the fall with some kind of low disturbance coulter using RTK. Hit it with something like a turbochopper after fertilizer placement and then hit it again in the spring with the turbochopper (assuming corn on corn) and plant. Apply some more N at or near planting time (broadcast or with planter) and then side dress the remaining N.
I'm really surprised Great Plains is sticking their neck out this far on the twin row thing. I'm starting to see some data showing as seed corn price is going up, the higher plant populations are not as economically sensible like they have been. | |
