Subject: Re: Twin Row Strip-Till

EC WisconsiN
We have twin-rows and have been tossing the idea around of spring strip-tilling. I do not want to a mole knife due to stones. So only ones I have thought of using would be the dawn's or a soil warrior. A 10" wide strip would be ideal. Mixing in the dry fertilizer in that strip and having a ten in wide 'hot zone' might/probably would allow me to cut out my starter fertilizer and cut back 20% in dry fertilizer cost. The yield gain we have seen from twin-rows has been very good and would not want to go back to 30's. But being in northeast WI, springs are cool and having some 'black' dirt to plant into would allow for faster emergence and earlier seedling vigor. Just not real sure on what to do, not many people running strip-till and twin-rows. On a side note: Jim, is there any type of spacers that can be added to widen out the strip the dawn's create to 10"?
