| My selection is limited to corn 85 day or earlier, but I do test some to 91 day, so I don't have as many hybrids to choose from compared to the corn belt where 100-110 day maturities are used. In 2009 we ended up planting very late and I decided to switch 95% of my acres to one hybrid (2 if you include the BT version) that matures very early and has yielded very well the past two years. It ended up doing the best in my plots so I was glad I made that decision. Next year I will plant about 75% of my acres to that hybrid and fill in the rest with new genetics that have done well in plots in my area. If there are no hybrids that consistently come to the top, then I will split acres evenly between the 3 or 4 best. | |
