| I would guess that our crop was exactly the same as last year (in regards to ears and kernel count), but the poor test weight caused around a 10% decrease in yield from 2008 to 2009. Corn that was weighing 58-60 pounds last year struggled to weigh 53 pounds this year. I have heard many people in the local area complain about corn yields. We used all spring N, which proved to be a wise move (luck only). The national corn yield will be decreased in the upcoming USDA reports. If not, they are once again skewing the data. | |
