Rivers, MB
It keeps dribbling a little more snow all the time. 3-4" at most. More in Brandon for sure.
Few things that we like about fertilizing some in fall. Spreads out the work load. Not really setup to do all our acres of fert in spring.
We like opening up our soil a little in fall, especially our wheat stubble. If we have a very wet spring, and we have had numerous of those in the last 11 years, the soil is just mush under all the straw and chaff. It seems that if we fert in fall, the soil drys a little quicker in spring with the soil exposed and lets us get seeding a little sooner.
We have also observed that prebuying all your fert for spring delivery is difficult. Need to store it yourself and we are not properly set up for that as well.
I would like to get to the point of single passing our sunflower stubble and light land. It would conserve moisture and give us an option to do other fields in spring if we pick up some land in the winter or don't get it all done in fall.
Some habits are hard to break!!
