Rivers, MB | We grow wheat, canola, peas and sunflowers in SW Manitoba. Usually apply NH3 in fall with 1" knives on 12" spacing. Some land gets fertilized in spring. Thinking of adding a liquid kit onto our drill so that we could one pass seed/fert on the acres that don't get fertilized in fall. The concern with fertilizing in spring w/ NH3 is that its extra fuel, more time and most importantly, drys out the soil. MOst of the time, we're trying to conserve moisture, not dry things out. How much moisture do you think we lose fertilizing w/ 1" knves on 12" spacing in spring? I know its difficult to put a number on that but surely someone has done some work on that somewhere?
Thanks in advance. | |
