Central Illinois | We had 2.8" west of Champaign, IL and started back up Sunday. Surprisingly is was ok for the situation. Ran yesterday and had a good day actually. But,, at 6:00 the ground conditions changed quickly. The soft spots went to mush. I'm 35 and have run a combine since I was 13 and tonite was the first time I've stuck one. Actually buried one. Not a problem getting out with 4wd tractor--might be the only thing that tractor gets used for this fall.
Hope we can get more done before the rain. I dont' like freezing temps but we need cold temps to get the last of this crop out without making a mess of farms. Dad is 65 and HATES ruts. Says in '65 Grandpa hired a neighbor with one of the first combines around to take out 40 acres. He came in when everybody was gone and cut ribbons in 20 acres of it. Dad swears that part of the farm hasn't drained right since.
