Central Illinois
963 and a 1063 and basically same head with very minor changes. The 863 is a fine head. The 963 just had some nice improvements and long term should be a little easier to get parts for since they are newer. Some improvements were grease bank on rear of head, grease all the stalk rolls standing up from the rear in a grease bank, improved top drive sprockets on gear box (tapered keyed), improved tall corn attachements, and prop rods to hold hood open. The prop rod is not as fancy as the 800 series spring lift but they also do not rust shut either. Both heads are fine and neither would worry me. For my Money I'd get the head that mechanically was the best. Stalk roll knives, deck plates, gathering chains, sprockets, and pay close attention to the aluminum castings that the idler arm go through to tension gathering chains. These are kind of expensive and have bushings that wear out or come loose. Good luck!
