Digger-Check to see if it "Black Layered". Remove the tip of the kernel to see if there is a black layer formed. If you can squeeze the kernel and there is still juice inside it might need more time. We had in a 86 day Dekalb variety and it black layered about two weeks ago so I would think your 78 day stuff should be close.
