If you can stay between the rows you will not run over any, but if you get off a lot then cross ways would work better.
Larger booms would help going cross ways too.
Going cross the rows you run over 1 plant per row per tire. If you get off 1/3 of the time going length wise it would end up being about the same. It would look worse though looking down the rows.
Small odd shape fields would have a different out come.
