Don is correct; the Trimble cable is a null modem cable. A standard serial cable will look nearly identical, but won't work...
The EZ-Guide Plus firmware can actually be placed in any directory on your computer, but it won't show up automatically in EZ-Toolbox unless it's in the EZ-Toolbox directory. You'll have to Browse for it if it's anywhere else...
