I suspect that it is because their is no 'bu' of ear corn in these charts. They are averaging out to a bu of shelled corn. A bu of ear corn shoulda been a volume measurement & had a lot less shelled corn in it.

However, they went the other way, and tried to standardize it to the volume of shelled corn.

Now, if I had a bu basket left, I could grab a bucket full of the cobs & weight them. But I don't think I have a real bu basket left.
