I mentioned this price issue a few weeks ago.One of the additional causes is kind of unique. The diabetes drugs that cause you to lose weight in turn reduces your appetite. This means when you go to a fast food joint you dont order a large fry(maybe a small one) and when you go buy potato chips the bag is still1/2 full you bought last week. This means companies like frito lay need less chip stock potatoes. What does a grower do when his shed is full still and they are not taking his contract?Sell them onto the fresh market,,,which was already fully supplied.Resulting crash in values. The contracts for spuds to process next year have been slashed as well.

is there really that many people taking this new drug to see an impact in demand for a commodity? Didn't realize that many people had diabetes.

Not about diabetes, people are taking the drug to lose weight.

Eli Lilly amoung other companies is making several billion a year selling the drug.
