The Production Credit Association (PCA) had as much to do with farmers financial woes during that period as anything. At least that was my experience. They were loading farmers up with short and medium term debt. Pushing operating loans, equipment and livestock enteprises such as farrow to finish hog operations. The collateral requirements on loans were pretty lax. When the high interest rates came the crap hit the fan.
