We call a calf like that a "water belly". We think it's a genetic thing. We had one cow family of Holsteins that pushed out a few of those over the years. We would have sent that family down the line but they also liked to crank out cows that could produce 40,000 pounds with 5.0 percent fat and breed back quick. We took our chances with the water bellies.
