Economics is not a zero sum game. The US doesn’t lose just because manufacturing occurs other places. Just because we don’t make every trinket in the US doesn’t make us weak. That’s why trade deficits are useless to complain about. Floating currency’s are what balances things out. If China want to spend the dollars to keep their exports competitive by intervening in their currency markets and sell below true cost go for it. We are starting to see the cracks in their economy that has caused. Or Japan in the 80’s.

As to far as lazy goes, well every generation has said that about the next. I am guessing you don’t know how to shoe a horse or plow with mules. How about wagon wheel making or any of the food preservation methods. Our economy will adjust as new ways to do things are done and efficiency gains will be made. And to many the new ways will look “lazy”. We don’t seem to complain about tractor cabs or autosteer but that seems lazy when compared to having to steer oneself or being on open station equipment. Or say something like haying. Are we lazy now because we don’t have dump rakes and use large balers or equipment that allows for hay to be made without any human hands needing to touch it?

It would be no different than you trying to do everything on your farm and not spend money on anything but the absolute necessities. Are you better off learning the nuances of everything and going sort of the Amish route which would include equipment repairs, household repairs, growing all your own seed, etc. Or do you focus on what you’re good/efficient at?
