Aberdeen MS
Up here in the "north" country, excess N is what is being seen as the biggest visual problems with high pH soils and beans. A cover crop of oats broadcast after planting and killed off at around 6" growth stage has been seen, so far, to be the most cost effective band aid fix.

I've got one field, pH test results in portions of the field are 8.0+ (NOT pulling a probe from the hot spots). That 40 has many thousands of feet of tile, but back in the day, it used to be a swamp/marsh. That soil just stays "tight", period. Can produce upwards toward 200 bu corn, but forget using beans for anything other than rotation (economically speaking).

Next rotation into beans will be going with the oats cover IF I can rid of the excess residue from the previous corn crop.

Always an experiment around the corner.
