Subject: co-op board participation question

western wisconsin near la crosse
It's that time of year when co-op fiscal years are ending and soon annual meetings will be taking place. Two of the local co-ops we belong to require active farmers to be on their boards. I have served on both in years past . One for 12 years and one for 15 years. I served as president on both but not at the same time thank goodness. My question is this. Would you be more likely to run for a position if you were asked to by a nominating committee or would you be more likely to ask to be put on a ballot. In my situation I was asked both times I don't think I would have run otherwise. What does everyone think?
