Was considering the same thing at one time, it can be done but is quite complicated and has to have a bypass. Ended up going with an ace hydraulic pump and 4 section control.
It was on a 24 row 2 fan 1770, tractor had a 36gpm pump, It didnt set any speed records raising up on headlands though. Depending on your GPA desired an electric pump might be the easiest.
