Spindles…….probably not….see below…….

Anything that has been heat treated…..definitely not.

A mild steel shaft………maybe. Spray torch buildup maybe the best way to do that. I’ve done some short thick shafts with 7018 rods. An old machinist friend used to say that 6013 was best when you were going to cut threads in the repair.

Had a couple axles on a JD 310D backhoe built up when bearings went out. Got one done and back together and should have torn the other side down to check but didn’t. So, it wasn’t long before had to do that bearing and have shaft welded up and turned back down. Got it back together and then both snapped off at the repair within a very few hours.

Luckily it didn’t hurt anything else each time, but got to do that repair job twice … 4 times really!
