I remember our Mechanic fixing that oil leak on 3 different 3176's. Instead of pulling camshaft he cut the cam gear off, pulled the cover fixed leak then bought new gear and installed. Had to get gear hot so it would slip on to camshaft and only got one shot at it. Probably not the proper way but they all ran good after he got done and didn't leak oil.
