Yes we did it to a 7800. The range box has to come apart there are some spacers on the shafts you pull off to put the gears on. We did not change the d range gear I think it is just the one gear that is different. If you change it d range has a top speed of about 17 mph instead of 19 but it doesn't have to be done if you don't want to. For e range I am 95 percent sure you could put the the gears on for a 50k e range and have a top speed of about 29 instead of 26. The true 50k transmission changes the ring and pinion in the diff to make it go faster but also has a different e range gears. This would be parts for a 10 series.

R94238 and R94239 are the 40k e range gears
R159385 and R159386 are the 50k e range gears
The 40k and 50k range box's use different shafts but c range is the same so the gears will fit on the shaft. The range box has a different part number so there is the small possibility it will cause a clearance issue but I don't think so. We put the 40k in ours.
